Gaza Province is surrounded by historical significance owing to the many battles fought in this region against the Portuguese colonialists. Many of Mozambique's heroes, the first president of Frelimo and the first president of Mozambique was born here. A place central to these battles is the district of Chibuto, where this luxurious hotel is situated and from where your tour of the battlefields can begin.
NWADJAHANE MUSEUM

In the district of Manjacaze is an open air museum which preserves and showcases the life and work of Eduardo Chivambo Mondlane, the first President of Frelimo and the architect of the national unity of Mozambicans.

Among the exhibits at the museum is the original rustic house that Mondlane had built in 1960 when he became a United Nations official. The complex also includes the family cemetery, a library, a commemorative monument and a preservation area.

CHILEMBENE
Samora Moies Machel, the first President of Mozambique, was born a rural village in the Chokwe district called Chilembene. A striking monument has been built here in tribute to Samora Machel.

Alongside this monument is another monument honouring Josina Machel.

Also nearby is a mafura tree where the warrior commandant, Maguiguana Cossa, regularly gathered his army during the resistance war against the Portuguese.
CHAIMITE
Found in the Chibuto District, Chaimite was the first capital of Gaza State. It is in this place where the King Ngungunhane, the last emperor of Gaza, was defeated and arrested on 28 December 1895 by the colonial army. It is an historical site fenced by Amarula trees. At the centre of the site is a stone monument of approximately 10 meters high.
COOLELA
Is an historical site, located in the Mandlakzi District. During the Portuguese penetrative attack and the strong resistance of the National army, much blood was shed. At the site is a monument dedicated to Mozambican warriors that died in the battle, and a sign board indicating the protected area according to the law (lei 10/88 de 22 de Dezembro).
KA-MANDLAKAZI
Mandlakazi Village was the last capital of Gaza State. At the centre of the village is a monument in tribute to the King Ngungunhane. Behind the District Government office there is an historical Tambeira tree, locally known as Tsondzo, where King Ngungunhana gathered regularly with the high commanders of his army during the resistance war against the Portuguese colonialists.
